Wilkinson, Adam Alexander
Adam Alexander Wilkinson, an American soldier, was killed in action on February 18, 2007, in Qalat, Afghanistan, at the age of 23.
Their Story
Adam Alexander Wilkinson served as a Sergeant in the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado, but was assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 160th Aviation Regiment based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. His service took him to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Operation Enduring Freedom began in October 2001 as a response to the September 11 attacks. By 2007, the conflict had entered a challenging phase with the Taliban regaining strength. This resurgence led to increased hostilities and a rise in improvised explosive device (IED) attacks across various regions.
On February 18, 2007, Wilkinson was killed in action in Qalat, located in Afghanistan's southern province of Zabul. Reports from that period indicate that the region was fraught with conflict as coalition forces engaged in efforts to stabilize the area.
Wilkinson's passing was part of the broader sacrifices made by many during Operation Enduring Freedom, which sought to dismantle terrorist networks. His death is a reminder of the human cost of military operations.
The operation continued until December 2014, concluding after 13 years of military engagement aimed at restoring peace and security in the region.
