Robert Charles White III, born in Camden, New Jersey, served as a Private First Class in the United States Army. He was a combat engineer with the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 864th Engineer Battalion, part of the 555th Engineer Group based at Fort Lewis, Washington.

White deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, a military operation initiated by the United States on October 7, 2001, following the September 11 attacks. The operation aimed to dismantle terrorist organizations and remove the Taliban from power.

On April 23, 2005, at the age of 21, White was killed in action at Kandahar Airfield, a major base for coalition forces in Afghanistan. His death was recorded as part of the enduring conflict, which lasted until December 2014.
