1LT Ashley Irene White, an American combatant from Alliance, OH, died on October 22, 2011, in Zhari District, Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom.

Their Story

Ashley Irene White, born in Alliance, Ohio, served with distinction in the United States National Guard as a member of the Army's Company C, 230th Brigade Support Battalion, 30th Heavy Brigade Combat Team, based in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Her commitment to her duties led her to serve in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Operation Enduring Freedom began in October 2001, with the aim of dismantling terrorist organizations operating within Afghanistan. By the time White was deployed, the conflict had been ongoing for a decade, with numerous American and coalition forces engaged in combat operations.

On October 22, 2011, 1LT White lost her life due to hostile action in the Zhari District of Afghanistan. Her service and sacrifice are remembered by those who knew her, as well as by her military colleagues.

White's death occurred during a critical period of the conflict, as international forces were working to transition security responsibilities to Afghan forces. Her passing reflects the dangers faced by service members in conflict zones.

The conflict, known as Operation Enduring Freedom, concluded in December 2014, marking the end of a significant chapter in Afghanistan's history. White's contribution remains a part of the broader narrative of this complex and extensive military operation.
