Staff Sergeant Matthew J West, an American soldier hailing from Conover, Wisconsin, dedicated his life to serving his nation. Born in 1974, West enlisted in the United States Army, eventually joining the 62nd Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Company, a unit integral to the Combined Joint Task Force Paladin South.
During Operation Enduring Freedom, which commenced in October 2001, West was deployed to Afghanistan. His work with the EOD Company underscored his commitment to neutralizing explosive threats, a critical task in ensuring the safety of both military personnel and civilians in conflict zones.
