Their Story
Lance Corporal Eric Levi Ward was a member of the United States Marine Corps, serving with Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, part of the 2nd Marine Division based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. At the age of 19, Ward was deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, a military campaign initiated on October 7, 2001.
On February 21, 2010, LCPL Ward's life was tragically cut short in Helmand Province, a region that witnessed significant conflict during the operation. His death was the result of hostile actions, reflecting the dangers faced by service members in the region.
Ward hailed from Redmond, Washington, and was among many young Americans who served in Afghanistan, a country marked by prolonged conflict and efforts towards stabilization and reconstruction.
