Their Story
Chief Warrant Officer 2 Don Cayetano Viray was a dedicated serviceman from Waipahu, Hawaii. He served in the United States Army with Company A, 2nd Battalion, 25th Aviation Regiment, 25th Combat Aviation Brigade, based at Wheeler Army Airfield, Hawaii.
CW2 Viray was deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, a mission that began in October 2001 with the aim of dismantling terrorist organizations and stabilizing the region. During his service, Viray was involved in critical aviation operations that supported ground troops and coalition forces.
On April 19, 2012, at the age of 25, CW2 Viray was killed in action in Divalak, Afghanistan. His loss was felt deeply by his unit and his family back home in Hawaii.
