Viola, Alex Anthony
SSG Alex Anthony Viola, an American from Keller, TX, served in the Army's 3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (A) and died in Afghanistan on November 17, 2013.
Their Story
Staff Sergeant Alex Anthony Viola, a native of Keller, Texas, was serving his country as part of the United States Army when his life was tragically cut short in Afghanistan. Born in 1984, he dedicated much of his adult life to military service, joining the Army and eventually becoming a member of Company B, 3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) based out of Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.
On November 17, 2013, Viola was killed in Shah Wali Kot District, Afghanistan, during Operation Enduring Freedom, a conflict that began in October 2001 in response to the September 11 attacks. He was 29 years old at the time of his death. His passing was a somber reminder of the many lives affected by the protracted conflict.
Operation Enduring Freedom was a significant military operation aimed at dismantling al-Qaeda and removing the Taliban from power. Over the course of its thirteen years, it took a heavy toll on many families and communities, both in the United States and abroad. Viola was one of 2,356 American service members who lost their lives during this operation.
