Their Story
Donald Wayne Vincent, born in Gainesville, Florida, was a member of the United States Marine Corps. He was assigned to F Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, part of Regimental Combat Team-3 (RCT-3), 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade Forward, 2nd Marine Division based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
On July 25, 2009, Vincent was serving at Camp Dwyer in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. This operation, launched in response to the events of September 11, 2001, aimed to dismantle terrorist activities in the region and secure a stable governance structure in Afghanistan.
Vincent's role in the Marine Corps placed him directly in the theater of conflict. His service contributed to the broader mission of the U.S. military to stabilize and improve conditions in the territories where they operated. Regrettably, his commitment to his duties led to his untimely passing at the age of 26.
The Department of Defense confirmed that Vincent's death was due to hostile actions. Such losses were felt deeply by his family, fellow service members, and the community he left behind.
Operation Enduring Freedom, which began in October 2001, eventually concluded in December 2014. The operation saw numerous service members like Vincent who dedicated themselves to their country's objectives in Afghanistan.
