Their Story
CPL Jorge Emmanuel Villacis, an American soldier, was born and raised in Sunrise, Florida. He chose to serve his country as a member of the United States Army, where he was assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
Villacis was deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, a military campaign launched by the United States in response to the September 11 attacks. The operation aimed to dismantle the Taliban regime and eliminate terrorist networks in the region.
On December 12, 2010, CPL Villacis was killed in Howz E Madad, Afghanistan. His death was classified as hostile, a stark reminder of the perilous environment in which military personnel operate. His passing contributed to the 2,356 American military fatalities recorded in this conflict.
