Gene Arden Vance Jr, an American service member from Morgantown, West Virginia, was part of the National Guard's Army Support Company, 2nd Battalion, 19th Special Forces Group based in Kenova, WV. Vance joined the National Guard and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant, demonstrating a commitment to his role within the Special Forces community.
His service took him to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, a military campaign launched by the United States and its allies following the events of September 11, 2001.
