SGT Travis Allen Van Zoest was an American soldier from Bismarck, North Dakota. At the age of 21, he was serving with Battery A, 1st Battalion, 188th Air Defense Artillery, known as Task Force Vigilant, based out of Grand Forks, ND.
Van Zoest was deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, a military campaign initiated in October 2001. His service included deployments to regions such as the Philippines and the Horn of Africa, reflecting the broad scope of U.S. military operations during that period.
On June 6, 2006, Van Zoest tragically lost his life in Khogyani, Afghanistan. The cause of his death was classified as hostile, highlighting the dangers faced by service members in the conflict.
