Their Story
Private First Class Marcus Allan Tynes was a young soldier from Moreno Valley, California. At the age of 19, he served in the United States Army, specifically with C Company, 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment.
In the course of his service, Tynes was deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, a military campaign that began in October 2001 following the events of September 11. His unit was involved in operations in various regions, including the Philippines and the Horn of Africa, before his deployment to Afghanistan.
On November 22, 2009, Tynes lost his life in Alkowsi, Afghanistan. The cause of his death was recorded as hostile, a somber reminder of the volatile environment in which he served.
