Cody James Towse, a 21-year-old American soldier from Elk Ridge, Utah, died on May 14, 2013, in Zhari, Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom.
Their Story
Cody James Towse, a specialist in the United States Army, was serving with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team based at Fort Bliss, Texas. He was deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, a mission initiated in response to the September 11 attacks and aimed at dismantling terrorist groups.
On May 14, 2013, Towse was in Zhari district, a region in Kandahar province that had seen significant military operations over the years. Zhari was known for its strategic importance and the challenges it posed to coalition forces due to insurgent activity.
Towse was engaged in combat operations when he was killed by hostile actions. His death was part of the broader conflict that saw many service members from various countries losing their lives. Reports indicate he was among the 2,356 Americans who perished during Operation Enduring Freedom.
The operation, which began in October 2001, officially concluded in December 2014. During its course, it deeply affected countless families, including Towse's, who mourned the loss of a young life dedicated to service.
