SPC David Nelson Timmons Jr, an American soldier from Lewisville, NC, died in Kunar Province, Afghanistan on May 5, 2006, at age 23 during Operation Enduring Freedom.

Their Story

David Nelson Timmons Jr, a Specialist in the United States Army, was born and raised in Lewisville, North Carolina. At 23, he was serving with Troop A, 3rd Squadron, 71st Cavalry, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, known as Task Force Spartan, based out of Fort Drum, New York.

SPC Timmons was deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military effort that began in 2001. This operation aimed to dismantle terrorist networks and secure stability in the region following the September 11 attacks.

On May 5, 2006, SPC Timmons lost his life in Kunar Province, a mountainous area known for being a challenging combat zone. His unit was engaged in operations that sought to counter insurgent activities in the region.

His passing was a profound loss for his family, comrades, and community. As a soldier, David was remembered for his commitment and service.

Operation Enduring Freedom officially concluded in December 2014, but the contributions and sacrifices of soldiers like SPC Timmons remain a significant part of its history.
