Terwiske, Alec Robert

Alec Robert Terwiske, known as a dedicated Marine, was born in Dubois, Indiana. He joined the Marine Corps Reserve and was assigned to I-I Staff, 1st CEB, 1st Marine Division, I MEF (FWD), 4th Tank Battalion based at Fort Knox, Kentucky.

On September 3, 2012, LCPL Terwiske was in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, participating in Operation Enduring Freedom. This operation was a U.S.-led coalition effort in response to the September 11 attacks, which began in October 2001 and concluded in December 2014.

LCPL Terwiske's duties took him to one of the most volatile regions in Afghanistan, where he was engaged in maintaining security and supporting coalition forces. His service was part of a broader effort to stabilize the area amidst ongoing conflict.

The circumstances of his death are recorded as hostile, a term denoting combat-related incidents. LCPL Terwiske's passing was one of the 2,356 American military lives lost during the prolonged conflict.

His death was a profound loss to his family, community, and fellow Marines. He is remembered for his commitment to service and the sacrifice he made in the line of duty.
