Their Story
Nicholas Andrew Taylor was born in Berne, Indiana, and joined the National Guard as part of the 713th Engineer Company (Sapper), 113th Engineer Battalion, 81st Troop Command, based in Valparaiso, Indiana. He reached the rank of Specialist (SPC) and was deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
On July 16, 2012, at the age of 20, SPC Taylor lost his life in Jannan, a location within Afghanistan known for its challenging and often hostile environment. His service was part of the broader mission of the United States and allied forces aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and stabilizing the region following the events of September 11, 2001.
