Robert Joseph Tauteris Jr, a Specialist in the United States Army National Guard, was serving with the 713th Engineer Company (Sapper), 113th Engineer Battalion, 81st Troop Command, based in Valparaiso, Indiana. Tauteris was part of the contingent deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, a military operation initiated in October 2001.
On January 6, 2012, SPC Tauteris was killed in hostile circumstances in Nilay, Afghanistan. His death was one of the many losses endured by the United States military during the operation, which sought to address various security challenges in the region.
