David Martin Tapper, a 32-year-old Navy Petty Officer from Atco, NJ, died on August 20, 2003, in Bagram, Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom.
Their Story
David Martin Tapper, a Petty Officer First Class in the United States Navy, was born in Atco, New Jersey. Known for his dedication and commitment, Tapper served with the Navy's Special Warfare Development Group, commonly referred to as SEAL Team 6, based in Dam Neck, Virginia.
On August 20, 2003, Tapper was involved in a military operation in Bagram, Afghanistan, as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. The operation, initiated in response to the September 11 attacks, aimed at dismantling terrorist groups and preventing future attacks.
During his deployment, Tapper was engaged in operations across various locations, including Afghanistan, the Philippines, and the Horn of Africa. These missions were crucial in the early years of the conflict when coalition forces were targeting remnants of the Taliban and Al-Qaeda.
Tragically, Tapper's life was cut short due to hostile action. His death was recorded in the Defense Casualty Analysis System on the same day. The loss of Tapper was deeply felt by his family, friends, and fellow service members, who remembered him for his bravery and sacrifice.
Operation Enduring Freedom officially concluded in December 2014, but the impact of the conflict and the lives lost continue to resonate.
