Preston J. Suter, an American serviceman from Sandy, Utah, was serving as a Specialist in the United States Army at the time of his death. He was part of Task Force Duke, which included the 3rd Brigade Combat Team of the 1st Infantry Division, specifically assigned to the 527th Military Police Company, Combined Joint Task Force 1.

On July 5, 2011, while on duty in Afghanistan, SPC Suter was killed in action in an area known as Route Virginia. His death was categorized as a result of hostile action, underscoring the perils faced by military personnel in conflict zones.

Operation Enduring Freedom, which began on October 7, 2001, following the events of September 11, 2001, was a significant international military campaign aimed at dismantling terrorist organizations operating in Afghanistan and beyond.
