Petty Officer First Class Michael Joseph Strange was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the United States Navy, serving in the elite Naval Special Warfare Development Group, commonly known as SEAL Team Six.
On August 6, 2011, during Operation Enduring Freedom, Strange was part of a mission in Wardak Province, Afghanistan, when his unit's helicopter was shot down in a hostile attack. This tragic event claimed the lives of 30 U.S. servicemen, including 17 Navy SEALs, marking one of the largest single-day losses for U.S. forces in the war.
Strange had previously deployed to various conflict zones, including the Philippines and the Horn of Africa, where he was involved in counter-terrorism operations.
