Their Story
Sergeant David Alexander Stephens was a dedicated soldier born and raised in Tullahoma, Tennessee. At the age of 28, he was serving his country as an active-duty member of the U.S. Army during Operation Enduring Freedom.
Assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 508th Infantry, 4th Brigade Combat Team, based in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, SGT Stephens was part of a mission that sought to stabilize regions of Afghanistan amid growing insurgent activities.
On April 12, 2007, he was killed in action approximately 5 kilometers south of Four Corners, Afghanistan. His death was attributed to hostile actions, a somber reminder of the risks faced by military personnel in conflict zones.
