Their Story
Tracy Lane Stapley, who held the rank of First Sergeant in the United States Army, was born and raised in Clearfield, Utah. He was assigned to the 308th Medical Company, part of the 172nd Medical Battalion (Multifunctional) under the 807th Medical Command (Deployment Support), headquartered in St. George, Utah.
1SG Stapley was deployed as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, which began in October 2001. His service took him to various regions including Afghanistan, the Philippines, and the Horn of Africa, reflecting the global nature of the conflict against terrorism.
On July 3, 2013, Stapley was stationed at Camp As Sayliyah in Qatar, a significant logistics hub for U.S. military operations in the Middle East. It was there that he was killed in action, a stark reminder of the ongoing risks faced by military personnel even in non-combat zones.
