Their Story
Derek Anthony Stanley was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He chose to serve in the United States Army, where he was a corporal in Company B, 710th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, part of Task Force Spartan.
He was stationed at Fort Drum, New York, before being deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, which began on October 7, 2001. The operation was a direct response to the September 11 attacks and aimed to dismantle terrorist groups in the region.
On June 5, 2006, CPL Stanley lost his life in Salerno, Afghanistan. He was among the many soldiers who faced the daunting challenges of serving in a conflict zone far from home.
His family, friends, and fellow soldiers remember him for his commitment and service. His passing marked a profound loss to those who knew him and served alongside him.
