Their Story
Specialist Jared Donald Stanker served with Company C, 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry, 5th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, based at Fort Lewis, Washington. His unit was deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
On October 27, 2009, Stanker lost his life in the Argandab River Valley, Afghanistan. The Department of Defense reported his death as a result of hostile actions, emphasizing the perilous nature of his mission.
