Their Story
Private First Class Amy Renee Sinkler was assigned to the 109th Transportation Company, 17th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 3rd Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, based out of Fort Richardson, Alaska. Her service included deployments to the Philippines, the Horn of Africa, and Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
In early 2011, she was operating in northern Afghanistan. The city of Mazar-e-Sharif, where she died, was a major logistical hub for coalition forces. At the time, the U.S. troop surge, ordered in late 2009, was at its peak, with forces engaged in intense counterinsurgency operations across the country.
