Their Story

Sgt. Randolph Alonzo Sigley Jr. was a Kentucky National Guard soldier from Richmond. He was assigned to the 2123rd Transportation Company, a unit based in his hometown as part of the 103rd Chemical Battalion.

Sigley was deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign that began in October 2001. His unit's mission involved transportation and logistics support across the theater of operations.

On April 18, 2010, Sigley died at Bagram Airfield, the largest U.S. military base in Afghanistan. The Department of Defense announced his death the following day, stating he died of wounds sustained from a non-combat related incident.

His death was one of several that year involving Kentucky National Guard soldiers in Afghanistan. The 2123rd Transportation Company had previously deployed to Iraq in 2004.
