Salazar, Brenden Neal
U.S. Army Specialist Brenden Neal Salazar, 20, of Chuluota, Florida, was killed in action on July 22, 2012, in Pul-e Alam, Afghanistan, while serving with the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team.
Their Story
Brenden Neal Salazar was a Specialist in the United States Army, assigned to Company A, 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team. The brigade, based in Vicenza, Italy, was a frequent deployer to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
On July 22, 2012, Salazar was killed in Pul-e Alam, the capital of Logar province in eastern Afghanistan. The area was a known insurgent transit route and a focus of coalition operations during that period of the war.
According to U.S. Department of Defense casualty releases, Salazar died of wounds sustained from enemy small arms fire. He was 20 years old at the time of his death.
His death was recorded among the more than 2,300 American service members who died during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Salazar was from Chuluota, a community in Seminole County, Florida.
The conflict in which he served, Operation Enduring Freedom, began in October 2001 following the September 11 attacks and concluded with its formal termination in December 2014.
