Private First Class Theodore Boykin Rushing, 25, of Longwood, Florida, was a cavalry scout serving with Company C, 3rd Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, based at Fort Drum, New York.

Their Story

Theodore Boykin Rushing was a soldier in the United States Army. He deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, serving as a cavalry scout with the 3rd Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment, a unit of the 10th Mountain Division.

On November 11, 2011, Rushing was wounded by hostile action in Afghanistan. He was evacuated to the Role 3 Multinational Medical Unit at Kandahar Airfield, a NATO hospital facility known for treating the most severe combat casualties.

He died of his wounds at the medical facility on that date. The Department of Defense announced his death the following day, November 12, 2011.

Rushing's death occurred during the later stages of Operation Enduring Freedom, a period marked by intense fighting in southern Afghanistan. His unit was part of the 10th Mountain Division's brigade combat team, which was deployed to Kandahar province.

He was a native of Longwood, Florida. His service included deployments to the Philippines and the Horn of Africa prior to his assignment in Afghanistan.
