Kyle Robert Rookey was a 23-year-old soldier from Oswego, New York. He served as a Specialist in the U.S. Army, assigned to Company B, 4th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, part of the 4th Brigade Combat Team out of Fort Carson, Colorado. His military service included deployments to the Philippines and the Horn of Africa before his assignment to Afghanistan.
