Sgt. Joshua James Robinson, 29, of Omaha, Nebraska, was a U.S. Marine killed in Helmand province, Afghanistan, on August 7, 2011. He served with 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, based at Camp Pendleton, California.
Their Story
Joshua James Robinson was a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, a unit based at Camp Pendleton, California, that deployed to Afghanistan as part of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).
In August 2011, his battalion was operating in Helmand province, a southern region that was a focal point of intense combat during Operation Enduring Freedom. The province was a stronghold for Taliban insurgents and a center of opium production, making it a strategically significant and dangerous area for coalition forces.
