Their Story
Sergeant David Scott Robinson was a 25-year-old soldier from Fort Smith, Arkansas. He served in the United States Army as a member of Troop D, 2nd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, based in Vilseck, Germany. His unit was deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
On November 20, 2010, Robinson was on a mounted patrol in the Qalat district of Zabul province in southern Afghanistan. The area was a known insurgent transit route between Pakistan and Kandahar. According to military reports, his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED).
Robinson was killed in the blast. He was one of at least four U.S. service members reported killed in Afghanistan on that date, a period marked by intense fighting during the 2010 troop surge. The 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment had been conducting counterinsurgency operations in the volatile region.
His death occurred in the later years of Operation Enduring Freedom, a conflict that began in October 2001 following the September 11 attacks. The war continued for another four years after his death, concluding in December 2014.
Sergeant Robinson's remains were returned to the United States. He is memorialized on the Afghanistan War casualty lists maintained by the Department of Defense and on several online veterans' memorial sites.
The conflict in which he died resulted in the deaths of thousands of coalition service members and tens of thousands of Afghan civilians and security forces. Each loss is recorded here with equal dignity.
