Their Story

Charles Daniel Robinson was a captain in the United States Army, serving with the elite 7th Special Forces Group based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was deployed to Afghanistan as part of Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan (CJSOTF-A), a unit conducting counter-insurgency operations in the country's volatile eastern provinces.

On June 3, 2005, Robinson was operating in the Paktika province near the town of Orgun-e, close to the border with Pakistan. The area was a known transit and staging ground for insurgent forces opposing the U.S.-led coalition and the Afghan government.

According to U.S. Department of Defense records, Robinson was killed during a firefight with enemy forces. The specific circumstances of the engagement were not detailed in public releases, but it occurred during a period of intensified operations in the region ahead of the country's parliamentary elections.

His death was recorded as the 174th American military fatality in Afghanistan since Operation Enduring Freedom began in October 2001. Robinson was 29 years old at the time of his death.

Captain Robinson was a native of Hadden Heights, New Jersey. His service included deployments not only to Afghanistan but reportedly also to the Philippines and the Horn of Africa as part of the U.S. military's broader special operations missions.

His loss was noted within the tight-knit Special Forces community. The conflict in which he served, Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, formally concluded in December 2014.
