Specialist Brian David Riley Jr. was killed in action on May 15, 2011, at Forward Operating Base Joyce in Kunar Province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, part of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, from Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. The battalion was deployed to eastern Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Riley was 24 years old. Public records and casualty lists indicate his hometown was Longwood, Florida. He was one of more than 2,300 U.S. service members who died during the Afghanistan War phase of Operation Enduring Freedom.
