Repkie, Robert Kelsey Levi
Private First Class Robert Kelsey Levi Repkie, 20, of Knoxville, Tennessee, was a soldier in the U.S. Army. He died on June 24, 2010, at Forward Operating Base Farah, Afghanistan.
Their Story
Robert Kelsey Levi Repkie was a 20-year-old from Knoxville, Tennessee. He served as a Private First Class in the U.S. Army, assigned to Company D, 782nd Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, based out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
On June 24, 2010, Repkie was killed in action at Forward Operating Base Farah in Afghanistan's Farah Province. According to the Department of Defense, he died from wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device and small arms fire.
His death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. In late 2009, a surge of U.S. forces was deployed to the country, intensifying operations in Taliban strongholds, particularly in the southern and western provinces like Farah.
The Department of Defense officially announced his death on June 25, 2010. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and other service medals. His remains were returned to the United States.
Repkie's name is inscribed on the Knox County Veterans Memorial in Tennessee. He is remembered by his unit and community as one of the more than 1,800 U.S. service members who died in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom.
