John Allen Reiners was a 24-year-old Staff Sergeant from Lakeland, Florida. He served with Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, part of Task Force Mountain Warrior, a unit deployed under Operation Enduring Freedom.
On February 13, 2010, Reiners died in Zhari province, a volatile district in Kandahar province known as a Taliban stronghold. The Department of Defense stated his death was the result of hostile action, though the specific incident was not detailed in initial releases. He was one of several American casualties reported in Afghanistan that day.
