U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Job Matthew Reigoux, 30, of Austin, Texas, was killed in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan, on June 1, 2013.

Their Story

Job Matthew Reigoux was a 30-year-old Staff Sergeant from Austin, Texas. He served with Company B, 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, based at Fort Stewart, Georgia. The unit deployed to Afghanistan as part of the United States' continued military presence there.

On June 1, 2013, Reigoux was killed by enemy small-arms fire in the Andar District of Ghazni Province, according to U.S. Department of Defense casualty reports. The area was known for insurgent activity, and his unit was engaged in security operations at the time.

Reigoux's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. By 2013, the mission had largely shifted to training Afghan forces and conducting counterinsurgency operations, with a focus on provinces like Ghazni.

Following his death, the Department of Defense officially announced his casualty on June 3, 2013. He was posthumously promoted from Sergeant to Staff Sergeant. His body was returned to the United States for burial.

Staff Sergeant Reigoux is memorialized on the Afghanistan War casualty lists maintained by the Department of Defense and on several online veterans' memorial sites. His name is inscribed on the Fort Stewart Warriors Walk memorial.
