Matthew Wayne Ramsey was a 20-year-old soldier from Quartz Hill, California. He served as a Specialist with Troop B, 1st Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

According to U.S. Department of Defense records, Ramsey died on November 29, 2010, in the Pachir Wa Agam District of Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan. Ramsey was killed during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001.
