Ray Anthony Ramirez was a 20-year-old soldier from Sacramento, California. He served as a Specialist in the U.S. Army, assigned to Company B, 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, based out of Fort Stewart, Georgia.
According to U.S. Department of Defense casualty reports, Ramirez died on June 1, 2013, in Sayed Abad, Wardak province, Afghanistan. The official cause was listed as hostile fire. Media reports from the time indicate his unit was engaged in combat operations in the volatile district.
