U.S. Army Specialist Jonathan Adam Pilgeram, 22, of Great Falls, Montana, died on February 17, 2011, in Ghaziabad District, Konar Province, Afghanistan.
Their Story
Jonathan Adam Pilgeram was a 22-year-old from Great Falls, Montana. He served as a Specialist in the U.S. Army, assigned to Company D, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, based out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
On February 17, 2011, Pilgeram was killed by enemy small-arms fire during a dismounted patrol in the Ghaziabad District of Afghanistan's eastern Konar province. The area was known for insurgent activity and rugged terrain.
His death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. The year 2011 saw intense fighting, with U.S. troop levels near their peak following a surge ordered in late 2009.
According to military releases and local news reports, Pilgeram was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and other commendations. His body was returned to Montana for burial.
He is remembered on memorials in his hometown and at Fort Campbell. His name is inscribed on the Afghanistan War Memorial at the Great Falls Veterans Memorial Park.
