Sergio Eduardo Perez was a Specialist in the United States Army from Crown Point, Indiana. He was assigned to the 713th Engineer Company (Sapper), 113th Engineer Battalion, 81st Troop Command, an Indiana Army National Guard unit based in Valparaiso.
On July 16, 2012, Perez was killed in Jannan, a village in the Maiwand district of Kandahar province, Afghanistan. According to U.S. Department of Defense casualty reports, his death was the result of a hostile incident. The specific details of the engagement were not widely reported in public releases.
