Calvin Matthew Pereda was a 21-year-old soldier from Fayetteville, North Carolina. He served as a Specialist with Company B, 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, based out of Fort Wainwright, Alaska. The unit was part of the U.S. Army's deployment to Afghanistan.
On November 12, 2011, Specialist Pereda was killed in Kandahar province, southern Afghanistan. The U.S. Department of Defense listed the cause of death as hostile action. No further specifics regarding the incident were publicly released in official casualty reports.
