Lance Cpl. Brandon William Pearson, 21, of Arvada, Colorado, was a U.S. Marine killed in Helmand province, Afghanistan, on November 4, 2010.
Their Story
Brandon William Pearson was from Arvada, Colorado. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, based at Camp Pendleton, California. The unit, part of Regimental Combat Team 2, deployed to Afghanistan in 2010.
On November 4, 2010, Pearson was killed during combat operations in Helmand province, a volatile region in southern Afghanistan. According to the Department of Defense, he died from wounds sustained while conducting combat operations. He was 21 years old.
Pearson's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. In late 2010, U.S. and coalition forces were engaged in a major offensive in Helmand, particularly around the Sangin district, to clear Taliban strongholds and support the Afghan government.
Following his death, Pearson was posthumously promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal. His body was returned to Colorado, where he was buried with military honors. Local news reported that his family and community in Arvada held memorial services.
Lance Cpl. Pearson is memorialized on the Afghanistan War Memorial at the Colorado Freedom Memorial in Aurora. He is one of more than 2,300 American service members who died during Operation Enduring Freedom.
