Peak, Adam Daniel
Lance Corporal Adam Daniel Peak, 25, of Florence, Kentucky, was a U.S. Marine killed in Helmand province, Afghanistan, on February 21, 2010.
Their Story
Adam Daniel Peak was from Florence, Kentucky. He served as an active-duty Marine with Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, part of Regimental Combat Team 7, Marine Expeditionary Brigade-Afghanistan, based out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
On February 21, 2010, Peak was killed during combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. The Department of Defense stated he died of wounds sustained from hostile fire. He was 25 years old.
Peak's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. His unit was deployed as part of a significant troop surge ordered in late 2009, which focused on clearing Taliban strongholds in Helmand, a volatile southern province.
Following his death, Peak's body was returned to Kentucky. He was buried at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North in Williamstown. His family and community in Florence held memorial services in his honor.
Lance Corporal Peak is remembered on memorial walls and in online tributes maintained by veterans' groups. His name is listed on the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines memorial and the Afghanistan War casualty rolls.
