Sergeant First Class Terryl Lynn Pasker was a 39-year-old soldier from Lisbon, Iowa. He served with Company B, 334th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Pasker was a senior non-commissioned officer in the U.S. Army.
On July 9, 2011, Pasker was killed in Tabanan village in Afghanistan's Panjshayr Province. According to U.S. military reports, his unit came under enemy small-arms fire during a security operation. He was one of two American soldiers killed in the engagement.
Pasker died during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. By 2011, the conflict was in its tenth year, with a focus on counterinsurgency and training Afghan security forces. The Panjshayr Province, while historically more stable, still saw periodic combat operations.
His death was reported by the Department of Defense and noted in regional news coverage. Pasker's body was returned to the United States for burial. He was survived by family in Iowa.
