U.S. Marine Corporal Nicholas Dimas Paradarodriguez, 29, of Stafford, Virginia, was killed in hostile action in Helmand province, Afghanistan, on May 16, 2010.

Their Story

Nicholas Dimas Paradarodriguez was a 29-year-old Marine corporal from Stafford, Virginia. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 7, of the II Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Before his deployment to Afghanistan, his service reportedly included deployments to the Philippines and the Horn of Africa.

On May 16, 2010, Corporal Paradarodriguez was killed in Helmand province, a volatile region in southern Afghanistan. The Department of Defense announced he died while supporting combat operations. The specific incident was not detailed in initial releases, but his death was recorded as resulting from hostile action.

Paradarodriguez's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. In early 2010, U.S. and coalition forces launched a major offensive, Operation Moshtarak, in Helmand province to clear Taliban strongholds. His unit was part of the sustained counterinsurgency effort in the region.

Following his death, the Marine Corps released a statement confirming his loss. He was survived by his family in Stafford, Virginia. Local media in Virginia noted his passing, and his name is inscribed on the Afghanistan War Memorial at the National Museum of the Marine Corps.

Corporal Paradarodriguez's service is recorded in the Pentagon's casualty lists and on memorial walls honoring those who died in the Afghanistan War. His battalion, 1/6 Marines, sustained multiple casualties during its 2009-2010 deployment to Helmand.
