Staff Sergeant Joe Abraham Nunezrodriguez was a soldier from Pasadena, Texas. He served with the 32nd Transportation Company, 68th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 43rd Sustainment Brigade, based at Fort Carson, Colorado. His service included deployments to Afghanistan, the Philippines, and the Horn of Africa.
On May 30, 2013, Nunezrodriguez was killed by enemy forces in Wardak province, Afghanistan. The incident occurred in the Shank area, a location known for insurgent activity and a forward operating base for U.S. and Afghan forces. The Department of Defense listed his death as resulting from hostile action.
Nunezrodriguez died during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. By 2013, U.S. forces were engaged in a drawdown and transition of security responsibilities to Afghan forces, though combat operations continued in provinces like Wardak.
