Their Story
Jordan Matthew Morris was a 23-year-old soldier from Stillwater, Oklahoma. He served as a Specialist with Company C, 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, based out of Fort Drum, New York.
On August 11, 2011, Morris was killed by enemy small arms fire during a dismounted patrol in the village of Nalgham, located in the volatile Wardak province of eastern Afghanistan. The patrol was part of a larger security operation in the region.
Morris's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001 following the September 11 attacks. The war's focus had shifted to counterinsurgency and training Afghan forces by 2011, with intense fighting continuing in provinces like Wardak.
According to the Department of Defense, Morris was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and other commendations. His body was returned to the United States, and he was buried with military honors.
Morris is remembered on memorials in Oklahoma and at Fort Drum. His name is inscribed on Panel 9W, Line 127 of the Afghanistan War Memorial at the National Infantry Museum.
