Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Arthur Moore was a 54-year-old officer from Boise, Idaho, serving with the 124th Wing of the Idaho Air National Guard, based at Gowen Field. According to military records, his service included deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to locations such as Afghanistan, the Philippines, and the Horn of Africa region.
On May 20, 2008, Moore was killed at Camp Lemonier, a U.S. expeditionary base in Djibouti. The Department of Defense stated he died from wounds sustained from small arms fire during a training exercise. The incident occurred on the base's small-arms range.
