Pedro Antonio Iv Millet Meletiche was a 20-year-old soldier from Elizabeth, New Jersey. He served as a Specialist with Company C, 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, based out of Fort Carson, Colorado.
On August 22, 2010, Millet Meletiche was killed in Deh-e-Kowchy, a village in the Arghandab District of Kandahar Province. According to the U.S. Department of Defense, his death was the result of hostile action. He was reportedly part of a unit engaged in operations in the volatile region.
His death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. The year 2010 saw a significant surge in U.S. troop levels, with intense fighting focused on insurgent strongholds in southern provinces like Kandahar.
Following his death, the Department of Defense officially announced his loss. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and other commendations. His remains were returned to the United States.
