Airman First Class Jerome David Miller Jr., 23, of Washington, D.C., was a member of the 459th Security Forces Squadron, U.S. Air Force Reserve. He died on October 13, 2011, in Bethesda, Maryland.

Airman First Class Jerome David Miller Jr. was a 23-year-old reservist from Washington, D.C. He served with the 459th Security Forces Squadron, based at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.
Miller died on October 13, 2011, at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. According to the Air Force, his death was the result of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device detonation in Afghanistan's Paktia province on October 10, 2011.
Miller was killed during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. His death occurred during a period of sustained combat operations and a significant troop surge aimed at countering insurgent forces.
The Air Force officially announced Miller's death in a press release. He was posthumously promoted to the rank of Senior Airman.
Senior Airman Miller's name is inscribed on Panel 2S, Line 128 of the Air Force Memorial in Arlington, Virginia, and he is listed on the Afghanistan War Memorial at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, which honors all U.S. service members who died in the conflict.
